Àban partners with Planet Youth
We're delighted to have secured 2 years funding to work in partnership with Planet Youth in Highland to create more Adventurous Learning opportunities for young people in our local area.
Planet Youth is a tried and tested, data informed, health improvement model designed to create transformational change for young people by working with schools and community partners.
There are currently 13 schools involved in Highland and we are the community partner for the Inverness High School catchment area.
S3 & 4 pupils have undertaken their initial health and well-being survey, which will be repeated every two years.
A Community Action Group has formed and we are looking forward to reviewing the results of the survey together in April, in order to create an Action Plan for our area.
The plan is to increase protective factors to reduce the chances of younger children starting to take part in negative risk taking behaviours such as using substances, bullying, self-harming, risky sexual behaviours amongst others.
Adventurous Learning has a strong role to play in prevention. Àban adventures offer healthy time outdoors, physical activity, positive relationships with peers and trusted adults, opportunities to experience success and achievement and a safe and supportive community, including good role models.
