About Àban
Àban is a Scottish outdoor education charity and award winning social enterprise.
Based in the heart of Merkinch, our core charitable work consists of weekly £1-to-access outdoor youth groups. We are funded by grants and our social enterprise activities to make these experiences available to teenagers living in Merkinch, South Kessock and Dalneigh, who may not otherwise get the opportunity. Sometimes places become available for teenagers living outside these areas, especially if they face barriers to accessing the outdoors.
We have a free of charge gear library providing outdoor clothing and equipment for the youth clubs as well as individuals in the community.
We also run a range of activities to support our charitable work including:
- DofE Gold Open Award group
- Scotland's first Outdoor Equipment Charity Shop
- The Kessock Ferry Swim
- Alladale Wilderness Experience (in partnership with The European Nature Trust)
- Bespoke Schools Bookings
- Private Guiding
